The purpose of the forum is to present civil causes and activities in support of democratic values in society, namely:
• freedom and protection of civil rights,
• balance of different groups in society,
• achieve consensus and sustainable development.
The extraordinary autumn edition of the “Democracy Conference” was organized by the Public Center for Environment and Sustainable Development, in partnership with the NGO “For the Earth”. The conference takes place with the financial support of the European Union, Active Citizens Fund for the financial support of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and Open Society Foundations. The main goal of the event was to improve citizens’ awareness of the role of non-governmental organizations in society.
In this forum I presented a visualization of how sea level rise, a consequence of global warming, affects ecosystems and settlements located near the sea coast by the end of the century. This included concrete examples of global warming of +3°C and +4°C (the most likely scenario if we do nothing about it) using Climate Central’s platform.
Afterwards, I showed the effect of individual global factors that influence this complex process: types of energy sources (coal, oil, gas, nuclear energy, renewables), the effect of introducing a carbon tax, energy efficiency, electrification, etc. by showing the climate simulator En-ROADS. So far, the tool has been shown to more than 400,000 people from over 100 countries, including 130 members of the US Congress.
