Did you know that even if we maximise renewable energy production, it would only limit global warming by 0.1 °C by year 2100? What if we shut down all the coal energy plants? Or if we tripple all transport electrification? The effect will be the same: 0.1 °C by year 2100.
Today we “bumped” our heads over this question, together with students from the 10th and 11th grades of the Fifth Language School in Varna.
It will take a lot of effort on all levels to make this happen! We talked about fast fashion and what the real price of a new garment is. We resented together the lack of effective recycling. But we realised how important it is to do it. Not only because of the trees we save.
The pupils asked: How long will the population of the Earth grow? And the En-ROADS climate simulator answered them predictably: rise to over 10 bn. people and then slightly decline. Why? The answer was unequivocal: Our planet is one, but we consume resources for three… Things must change and we need to act now!
