“Combining the power of gamification with the urgency of climate change action creates a dynamic force for good. Through engaging platforms like these, we transform awareness into tangible, collective action, making a real impact on our planet’s future.” – Delyan Kostadinov
This event started with a presented a visualisation of how climate change affects the ecosystems and settlements that are located near the seashore.
This included concrete examples of the most likely scenario by the end of the century, if we do not take any precautions and average temperature rise by +3°C and +4°C, using the Climate Central platform.
The participants had the opportunity to see the effect of individual global factors that influence this complex process: types of energy sources, the effect of introducing a carbon tax, energy efficiency, electrification, etc. through a presentation of the climate simulator En-ROADS.
So far, the tool has been shown to more than 300,000 people from 141 countries, including 130 members of the US Congress. Apostol Penkov presented it as the only official climate ambassador of the simulator in Bulgaria.
We also divided all participants into five teams that championed different causes. The ultimate goal was to limit global warming to 1.5-2 °C, as agreed at the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
The event ended after a presentation of each team to an “urgent UN climate meeting” and a discussion of possible options to prevent the catastrophic consequences.
